Robert Miller and Ranger

Robert was born and raised in New York, and attended college in Massachusetts where he met his wife, Maureen. After a three-decade career on Wall Street and small business ownership, Robert and his family started Feathered Elk Ranch to share their love of the outdoors with family and friends. Upland bird hunting since his youth, Robert also enjoys hiking, scuba diving and spending time with his dogs. Robert and Ranger look forward to guiding you on an upcoming hunt.

Thomas Miller and Moose

Thomas grew up in New York and attended Colorado State University, studying Natural Resource Recreation and Tourism. Since graduating CSU, Thomas has called Colorado home. He is an avid outdoorsman, competitive shotgun shooter and scuba diver. When not at the ranch guiding upland bird hunts or providing shotgun instruction, you can typically find Thomas in a duck blind with his hunting companion Moose.

Rick Meoli and Ruby

After a 40 year career as a professional photographer, Rick’s love for sporting dogs and upland hunting has brought him right where he was meant to be. Living in the mountains of Steamboat Springs, Colorado and working with Feathered Elk Ranch has been a great life experience. Rick looks forward to guiding you on your next upland hunt.

David M. Smith Jr. and Dagny

In the fall of 1996, David traded the hustle of San Antonio for the allure of Steamboat’s snow-covered peaks, chasing the dream of a ski bum’s life. One season was the plan—just a brief escape from a thriving career in the automotive world. But the mountains had other ideas. Decades later, he’s still here, calling Steamboat home and carving out a life as enduring as the ridges that surround it.

Today, you’ll often find David behind the counter at our local gun store, sharing his expertise and easy camaraderie. His passions are as varied as the seasons—upland hunting, competitive pistol shooting, and lending a hand to ranchers in their battle against ground squirrels.

With Dagny by his side, David is ready to guide you into the heart of the hunt, where every step holds the promise of a story worth telling.

Rachel Lewis and X

Rachel has deep roots in east Texas and Louisiana, but the mountains have had her heart from the moment she visited them in her early 20’s. Rachel and her husband relocated to Northwest Colorado in 2021. After a decade of traveling and working side by side in oil, gas, chemical and nuclear construction, they wanted to settle down to raise their kids in one location. While bird hunting and dog training consumes much of their life, they enjoy spending time with their family in nature. Rachel loves hunting, camping, river rafting, and fostering the love of wilderness in others.

Michael Lewis and Deets

Michael is originally from Texas but has travelled and lived all over the US and Gulf of Mexico for work. He worked as an Engineer for Bechtel for nearly a decade. His prior experience was as a welder but now works as a Project Manager in the construction field. Of all the places he’s lived, the mountains have always been the most alluring. The majestic place he calls home allows Michael to pursue his love of big game hunting, fishing, bird hunting, and camping. Outside of those endeavors, Michael spends much of his time dog training and enjoying the outdoors with his family.
